Shining a Little Light: Your Complete Guide to Mercedes Warning Lights

Back to news

Owning a Mercedes is wonderful, but you need to stay on top of the repairs.

Mercedes warning lights are in place to let you know what problems are present. However, if you don’t understand these warning lights, it’ll be difficult to make heads or tails of them.

If you are trying to get the best from your vehicle, it pays to know what each light means. Follow these tips to get to know some of the most important indicators.

1. The Check Engine Light

Knowing and understanding your check engine light is a very important facet of being an automobile owner.

When your check engine light is on, you always need to respect it, whether it means you need a minor oil change or need to pull over immediately. This is one of the main indicators that you need to start seeking repair services for your Mercedes.

However, a check engine light can come on for a number of different reasons.

It could mean that you need to have your spark plugs changed, fuel injectors cleaned or changed, or your engine might have entered emergency mode.

The only way to know for sure is to reach out to a repair shop to have them run a diagnostic check.

2. Brake Warning Light

You’re never safe off the road if you have bad brakes.

Understanding ways to take care of your brakes will be incredibly useful. When you notice that your brake warning light is on, it’s time to get your vehicle to a shop as quickly as possible.

In many cases, this light means that your brake pads are wearing down. If this happens, you might also notice squealing noises when you engage the brakes. Heed these warning signs and get your brakes checked out as soon as you can.

3. Low Fuel Light

Wouldn’t it be a pain to find yourself stuck on the side of the road because you ran out of gas?

The low fuel light is in place so that this never has to happen. This light goes off when you have as little as 30 to 50 miles until you need to fill up again. It lets you know when you are running on reserves and will give you every opportunity to fill up before getting stranded.

4. Seat Belt Light

Buckle up!

Now that we know just how critically important it is to wear seatbelts, your Mercedes won’t let you ride around without it without letting you know. The indicator will beep and will often speak over the radio until you buckle your seatbelt.

These indicators always go off for the front seat drivers and some vehicles will also have a light engage when backseat drivers aren’t wearing their seatbelts.
